Novelties through ‘Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs)’

Gulzar Group of Institutions constantly strives to incorporate innovation in imparting quality education. Innovations in education include internationalization, knowledge delivery through ICT, and evaluation of knowledge delivery through suitable pedagogy. Apart from academic flexibility, several contemporary programs viz., Technical education, ICT-based teaching-learning, MOOCs, etc. These initiatives brought qualitative and quantitative shifts in classroom delivery, and knowledge creation in measurable terms, to groom students market-ready. Faculty development is one of the prime areas where the institute is continuously striving and gives special focus to impart training and skilling to students to make the quality value addition in line to make student market/Industry ready.

 

Gulzar Group of Institutions, Ludhiana, founded in 2009, has made important contributions in the field of experiential learning toward building an environment for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in accordance with the college motto of ” Sharpening Minds, Brightening Tomorrow.”

 

During the academic calendar year 2018-19, Gulzar Group of Institutions, Ludhiana created an Institution’s Innovation Council (IC201811516) on campus in accordance with the Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

 

According to the rules of The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India, the institute is attempting to promote and support young students in working with innovative ideas and transforming them into prototypes.

 

MIC intends to encourage the formation of ‘Institution’s Innovation Councils (IICs)’ at chosen HEIs. A network of these IICs will be built to encourage innovation in the institution through various mechanisms, eventually leading to an innovation promotion eco-system on campus. The primary goal is to improve the cognitive abilities of technology students and to build a strong local innovation environment.

 

During the IIC calendar years 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21, the Gulzar Group of Institutions, Ludhiana, carried out several initiatives specified by the Innovation Cell, Ministry of HRD, Government of India, to foster innovation and start-up in the campus.

 

Gulzar Group of Institutions, Ludhiana, has been recognized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, for its outstanding performance in 2018-19 (4 Star Rating on Scale of 5), 2019-20 (5 Star Rating on Scale of 5), 2020-21. ( 3.5 Star Rating on a Scale of 5 ) and Top Performer in North-West /NWRO Zone in 2019-20, .

 

As a reflection of institutional activities related to Innovation and Entrepreneurship, our students competed at the national level in Smart India Hackathon 2019 & 2022 and in Toycathon 2021, which is a nationwide initiative of the MHRD to provide students with a platform to solve some of the pressing problems, instilling a culture of product innovation and a problem-solving mindset.

 

The institute’s MHRD IIC council strives to create a venue for ideas that have the potential to become profitable products while also addressing some societal challenges. The Cell encourages participation by students and professors. in various events such as hackathons, innovation contests, leadership talks, IPR Awareness Activities, Bootcamps, Mentorship & Orientation Session, Critical & Design Thinking Workshops, Field Visits to Identify Problems, Incubation, MSME visits, and so on to promote their ideas/products and aims to successful entrepreneur and commercialization of breakthrough technology

 

The institute provides project-based studies in many disciplines, where newly enrolled students can establish and pursue their own projects throughout their studies. After completing their academic programs, participants might continue to work on their proposals through several schemes’ creative idea development programs. As a consequence of raising awareness among students and teachers through awareness programs, motivational workshops, and presentations by famous entrepreneurs, they began to develop creative product concepts, which were eventually scaled. The institute always encourages students to participate in different National competitions. The institute has joined the campaign on implementing the National innovation and Start-up Policy (NISP) under the aegis of the Ministry of Education Innovation Cell (MIC) and adopted the policy framed by MIC. The aim of the National Innovation and Start-up Policy (NISP 2019) is to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the students and faculty to build a start-up ecosystem.

 

GGI has distinguished itself as a center for encouraging students’ multidisciplinary thinking via experiential learning. It is consistent with the goals of providing a vibrant atmosphere in the institute where people are ready to face problems and is instilled in the instructors and students. This prepares pupils to accept and handle problems in the future. It is applicable in the real world and gives a path to professional success. The institute offers project-based studies in different departments, where the newly admitted students get opportunities to develop their own projects and continue them in the course of their studies. After completion of their study programs, they can further work on their projects through innovative idea development programs under various schemes. As a result of spreading awareness among the students and faculty, by organizing awareness programs, motivational sessions, and talks by successful entrepreneurs, they started coming up with innovative product ideas, which got scaled to a large stage.
